The purpose of the special meeting at 7:00pm on January 24, 2019 at Grant Harvey (Community Room 1) is to vote on the proposed bylaws. The bylaw committee has worked hard to update the bylaws to align with the way the center operates today.
While there are several changes in the bylaws (proxies, nominations from the floor, 2-year terms for board members) there is one item I'd like to highlight. Section 3 outlines how the Abony Family Tennis Center defines a member. As a not-for-profit organization, the center must define what a member is in the bylaws and be able to identify these individuals. While the word member is used in the bylaws, this is a legal term and the Abony Family Yennis Center is still a community organization and holding a membership is not required to play at the center. Being a member is required to qualify a person to vote at the annual general meeting and other special meetings where general membership voting is required.
The updated bylaws identify a member as a person who has paid a nominal annual membership fee which we have established at $10. This $10 annual fee will be included in the cost of any program, player card and donation made in the applicable current fiscal year (September - August). Prices are not increasing to collect the fee. Also, parents and guardians can vote on behalf of members under the age of 18.
We look forward to seeing you at the special meeting.
